big birds and little birds
Wow! So, at some point, the baby birds hatched! We don’t really know when, but we do know why we didn’t know right away: the parent birds SIT on the babies. The reason for this is unclear – the temperatures haven’t dipped below 70 (even at night) – but it [...]

basketBRAWL!
The image you see on the left is a page from this is broken, a site dedicated to
cranky misanthropes weighing in on whether various things we interact with in everyday life are “broken” in terms of poor grammar, poor design or general uselessness. This particular thread was started by [...]

That’s when the doves sigh
Why do birds? Suddenly appear? Everytime I go near?
Just like a humble little manger in a small town called Jerusalem many moons ago, the ledge outside our office window is hosting some very special guests who are warming a very special little package. Unlike Mary and Joe-Joe of old, [...]

Society is a hospital of incurables
Just returned from taking K to the emergency room – nothing serious, just your average infection? virus? antibiotic reaction? which was causing skull-crushing pain, fever, chest pain, weird rashes over all limbs, etc. etc. etc. Nothing unexpected here in the jangly jungles of corntopia. She’s mildly better after consuming a bag of fluid via [...]

jonny-charlie waste-of-time
I’m at work, in a darkened room hidden behind a supply closet, by myself. This is supposed to be a meeting which was ambiguously called earlier today (what does “here” mean when you have access to video conferencing, online conferencing, in addition to meat-space???). There are people waiting in a similar room up [...]

I am So Full of Pride
K and I took a field trip yesterday to Indy for Gay Pride. We have been warned since moving here that there is, literally, nothing to do and nothing to see in Indy. With a population of 780,000 or so, I found that hard to believe. (Portland proper has only 530,000, and Milwaukee [...]

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Garden
Since daytime temperatures haven’t dipped below the low-80’s the past 2 weeks, I’ve been frequently going to our garden to walk water the plants.
Before it got really hot, I went before work because evenings can be busy or lazy, and either way its nice to know that the garden-watering chore is finished already.
One morning, [...]

Money for nothing and the fax is free
Whoa – 2 posts in one day!
I’m getting quotes for replacement windows for my house in Portland. I just have too much disposable income and new panes of glass are more effective than a coke habit to burn through a $hit-ton of cash. ha-ha-ha-hem. ahem.
Getting quotes from people when:
you live 2 time [...]

Finally, a breeder I agree with
If we all wore homespun and carved our own clogs out of milk bottle plastic, this wouldn’t even be an issue.
A Pennslyvania woman is auctioning, on EBay, the rights to dress her soon-to-be-born baby for a month at a time (link). Apparantly, July has already been purchased (by a casino, ‘natch) for 1,000.
At first, [...]
