Is that a Cellie or a Hellie?
I’m not such a fan of Wired. To use an analogy of the barnyard, Wired always struck me as a herd of little chickens who respond en mass to an excited clucking coming from the other end of the yard.
“Bck bck bck bck bckGUUUCK!” self-importantly shouts the big chicken known as NanoTech.
(”Ooooh!” shout the [...]

The Death Aquatic
An Associated Press article covering the funeral of naturalist and TV celebrity Steve Irwin concluded with comments from fellow marine explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau who said that, “while he mourned Irwin’s death, he disagreed with the Australian’s hands-on approach to nature television. He said he respected Irwin’s environmental message, but noted that Irwin would ‘interfere with [...]

E. Coli Big Baby Americans
I’m not such a huge fan of food-related convenience, since the only tangible effects I see are ever-increasing indicators of poor health and garbage. (For an informal survey of the garbage-effect, next time you’re walking or biking, start cataloging the trash in the gutter and berms according to whether its convenience-food-related or not… my guess is that it’ll [...]

A Happy for a Grumpy
I am wicked super grumpy today; nothing situational put me in a bad mood, but here I am nonetheless. I am having difficulty c’mon’ing and getting happy. I would like to kick the teeth in on abstract things, which, of course, do not have teeth. They don’t even have a TeethKicked(howMany int, forceApplied [...]

[...]

NWA does not stand for ni**az with attitudes
Rather, these days, it stands for “nincompoops with a…[website][airline][interesting customer service skills]“.
Just purchased a ticket to PDX through nwa.com. It was a frustrating experience, mostly because I am a compare/contrast bargain-hunter/gatherer, but somewhat because I felt jacked on the price. (Which, as I discussed in The Perks of Flying Coach, is actually far [...]

I Hates
scratchy sore throats
advertising for ginsu-knife-like kitchen utensils which show totally frustrated people who, in the advert, cannot complete simple tasks using the utensils already in their kitchen (slicing an apple, crushing an empty aluminum can, taking a pan out of the oven, stirring a pot of soup, etc.)
micro-managers
Hooters t-shirts
mealy apples
drivers who beep at me on my bike

long Friday afternoons

Of Yoders, Millers, Hostetlers and Riegseckers
Had a very pleasant camping trip up to Shipshewana, Indiana, “Home of the 1983 Class C Amish Armwrestling Champions”!! The Amish, I think, would really dig the Dutch, and vice-versa. The utilitarian black buggy, undifferentiated among various families and ubiquitous on the roads, is comparable to the Dutch black bicycle, the design of [...]
