Web Applications - Indiana University (2004-present)

My primary job function is to train and educate the IU community on various software applications and web technologies currently supported by the university. While my favorite classes to teach are on graphics applications like Photoshop and Fireworks and web development, I also teach courses on SQL, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia ColdFusion, desktop publishing, and other related technologies.

As such, web development has taken a backseat to curriculum development.

Project Brief:

IT Training and Education department members are responsible for either creating new curriculum or updating it as new versions of software are released. At any given time, there are multiple developments occurring, each with their own development teams, timelines, and milestones. This necessitates careful tracking and planning to make sure that all team members are aware of the current statuses of various materials, in order to ensure timely delivery of carefully vetted materials to the classroom.

This project was intended to make the tracking of such developments as easy as possible, regardless of the particulars of any given development. As with most projects, the easier it is for the end-user, the more difficult the job for the developer.

One especial challenge of this development is that it replaced a previous version almost uniformly detested by staff. It was incredibly important to achieve buy-in and ensure that this iteration of the software worked properly (and as users expected) from the get-go to attain some much-needed credibility.

Project Brief:

Our department needed to better comply with web standards set by our parent organization. In accordance with this mandate, I developed several drafts of potential web designs for our public site, with varying degrees of compliance in order to retain as much individuality while still complying with the standards.

Project Brief:

Indiana University is engaged in a multi-year transition to an enterprise-wide Course Management System (CMS) based on the open-source project SAKAI.

In order to make the implementation successful, IU needed to replicate the functionality available in the old CMS, which included one-to-one messaging functionality. Following direction from senior administrators, I created wireframes to pass off to the developers.
